About Genesee Pottery

Genesee Pottery was founded in 1972 and is located in the historic Firehouse #15 building at 713 Monroe Ave in Rochester, NY. Genesee Pottery is one of Rochester's premier community based ceramics facility serving an active community of students, renters, instructors and artists-in-residence. Our comprehensive studio facilities and 24 hour access available to our Artists-in-Residence and renters is unparalleled in the region.

In 2002, we renovated our facilities to expand forward from the back room studio space to occupy the entire west side of the building's first floor. The 2002 expansion nearly doubled our square footage to almost 4000 sq. ft. of classroom, studio and gallery space. We currently occupy one half of the buildings first floor with a side entrance on Wilcox Street and a main gallery entrance on Monroe Avenue. The pottery houses a 45 cu/ft gas down draft kiln, several electrics for bisque, low fire and cone 6, slab roller, extruder, spray booth, clay mixer, raw materials lab, bench grinder, hand-building tables, 25 electric potters wheels and two kick wheels. Our facility includes 3 classrooms, a kiln room, glaze room, individual renter spaces, Artist-in-Residence spaces and gallery space.

The Genesee Pottery offers many amenities to the Rochester community. We run quarterly classes and workshops on a variety of topics for all age groups and skill levels. We also custom tailor workshops and outreach programs for many of Rochester's community groups, schools and civic organizations. Rental space, time and firing services are available to people who wish to have access to our facilities on a regular basis.

Greater than our space and studio equipment, it is our community that makes the Genesee Pottery a treasured community asset. The Pottery prides itself on its large, diverse, very active and supportive community. We hope that you will join us.
