Frequently Asked Questions:
Do I have to be a member to take a class?
No. Anybody can take classes at the Center. You must be a member to access the facilities outside of class.
What benefits do I receive as a member?
That depends on what membership level you're at. Here's a summary:
- Friend Level: You can rent any of our facilities (darkrooms, lighting studios, pottery shelf, etc) at an hourly rate.
- Individual: Most people are individual members. You receive discounts on all classes and workshops in any program area and on facility rental. Students and senior citizens pay slightly less for this membership.
- Household: Same benefits as Individual but they extend to members of your family or household. For instance, a husband and wife can share a Household membership for $80 and receive the same benefits as two $60 Individual members.
- Sustaining and above: Same as Individual but you'll receive extra gifts depending on level, like our Genesee Center T-Shirt or free tickets to our annual Auction and Carnival.
All members are voluntarily listed on our member roster with a link to their website, portfolio, Etsy page, etc.
How do I become a member?
You can sign up online through PayPal, in person, or by sending a check to 713 Monroe Ave, Rochester NY 14607.
How long does my membership last?
One year from the date we receive your payment. You'll receive a membership card and letter in the mail within a few weeks of signing up but may begin using your privileges immediately.
If I sign up through Community Darkroom can I take a class in the Pottery?
Absolutely! A membership at the Center is good for any of our program areas, no matter who you registered with. We encourage our members to try classes in other disciplines, and some of our classes and workshops even cross over.
Can I purchase a membership as a gift for somebody else?
You may. Just let us know that's what's happening so we can send the membership to the right person.
