The Genesee Center has been serving the people of the Rochester area for more than 40 years. You may know us by the names of our 3 program areas:

Or you may know one of our special programs or events like Studio 678 Photo Club or Chili Cookoff. Thousands of people have attended our programs and continue to come back for more learning, fun, and opportunity.
Students, guests, and customers of the GCAE range in age from 4 -- 94, with many repeat customers at events or classes each year. Our audience includes people who spend discretionary income on arts education, handmade items, art objects, time in our studios, and having fun at events. We draw people from Rochester, the surrounding suburbs, Western NY as well as out of town visitors.

College Clay Collective – National Ceramics Exhibition [June]
A national juried ceramics exhibit featuring work from current students. Nationally advertised and locally promoted. 2013 will mark the 5th annual exhibit. Jurors have included faculty from universities across the country. |  |
Spokes and Ink – Monroe Avenue Festival [August]
A bicycle themed art and entertainment festival on Monroe Avenue in the city of Rochester. The inaugural event this past year drew more than 600 guests to the Monroe Avenue neighborhood. Food, live musical entertainment, a kids activities tent, merchandise booths and hands-on art-making for people of all ages. Held in the afternoon with MANY guests arriving by bicycle. Think eco-friendly family entertainment. |  |
History in the Making – National Ceramics Exhibition [September]
A national juried ceramics exhibit featuring work of professional artists. Nationally advertised and locally promoted. 2013 will mark the 8th annual exhibit. Expected to draw over 300 guests and more than 75 entrants. |  |
Chili Cookoff [November]
A contest for local area restaurants to show off their chili culinary talent. Guests select a handmade bowl from our Genesee Pottery, listen to live musical talent and feast on over a dozen chilis! Drawing nearly 300 people each year, 2013 will mark the 10th annual! |  |
Urban Youth Photo Club [Year-round]
This year-long program for 30 middle school students from the City of Rochester is now in its 17th year. Participants gather for 24 meetings during the year, 4 hours each, to learn photography, travel around the county for photo shooting sessions, print their work in our darkrooms, photograph in our lighting studios, learn about their community, reflect on their work, write about their work, make a book with their photos and writing, mat and frame their photographs, and prepare an exhibit and final award ceremony at City Hall Council Chambers. Over 250 people come each year to this final presentation! An excellent opportunity to support youth education. |  |
Free family days at the Genesee Center [Various]
Opportunities to let people of all ages come to the Genesee Center for some hands-on fun! Past days have included papermaking, cardmaking and pottery fun. Each day draws 50-150 people. |  |

We mail our quarterly class and events brochures to more than 3,000 community members and another 11,000 brochures are distributed to over 500 locations including colleges, businesses, professional organizations, libraries, art educators, and more.
